Okay, let’s summarize to determine if the Nintendo Switch OLED is worth including in your gaming setup:

If you’re a newcomer to the Switch gaming console, the Nintendo Switch OLED is absolutely an investment worth considering. It’s Nintendo’s best console to date, fixing many of the issues with the original Switch. Specifically, the new 7-inch OLED display is surprisingly impactful, enhancing colors and contrast for a much more vivid display, despite only being 0.8 inches larger than the original Switch’s 6.2-inch screen.

If you primarily enjoy playing in handheld or tabletop mode, upgrading to the OLED is an easy choice that’s worthwhile. The OLED has a lot to offer, thanks to the gorgeous 7-inch OLED screen, amazing speakers, and redesigned kickstand. However, if you currently have a Switch mainly used in TV mode, the Switch OLED will likely be seen as a luxury and unnecessary upgrade.

Barring a few minor changes that mostly keep things familiar, the Switch OLED differs little from the original Switch. The most significant changes are a larger display, twice the storage, a redesigned power and volume rocker, and smaller fan vents replacing them. Considered against the subtle differences, the Switch OLED’s price bump seems reasonable.

We dislike any changes involving reworking the existing microSD card slot and Game Card slot opening, though they may reduce potential damage risks. The latter faced especially harsh criticism from us, as the new opening is harder to open, not just armored.

Overall, the Nintendo Switch OLED is an excellent choice for new players, but for existing Switch or Lite owners, not unless additional storage space and a larger screen are absolutely critical to you, in which case an upgrade makes sense. It’s intended as moving “up a level” rather than completely reimagining the console. Still, the Switch OLED surpasses the original Switch on screen and audio, which is certainly an improvement.

How do you factor all these considerations into ultimately deciding if including a Switch OLED is right for your gaming setup? I recommend carefully reviewing all its differences and final capabilities to determine if critical for your gaming experience. If any other questions or recommendations are needed, feel free to ask. I’m happy to provide any assistance.
